Llandudno General Hospital for Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board (NHS Wales)- Boiler Replacement

Location

Llandudno Wales

As part of a critical plantroom upgrade at Llandudno General Hospital, we undertook the decommissioning and removal of three aging sectional cast iron boilers that had reached the end of their operational life. These were replaced with a modern, high-efficiency modular boiler system, consisting of six Hamworthy wall-hung condensing boilers.

The new arrangement significantly improves system resilience, efficiency, and control flexibility, allowing for better load matching and reduced energy consumption. In addition to the boiler replacement, we fabricated and installed new gas and LTHW (Low Temperature Hot Water) distribution headers to accommodate the modular setup, ensuring optimal hydraulic performance.

A bespoke stainless steel flue system was designed and installed to suit the modular configuration and meet current Building Regulations. The plantroom ventilation system was also comprehensively redesigned and upgraded to ensure adequate combustion air supply and room air changes, in full compliance with gas safety and mechanical ventilation standards.

All works were carefully coordinated to minimise disruption to hospital operations, with detailed planning and collaboration with estates and facilities management teams.
